Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin sidelined 8–10 weeks with finger injury

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed 20‑year‑old rookie shortstop Konnor Griffin on the 10‑day injured list on Tuesday after doctors diagnosed a sagittal‑band injury to his left ring finger. The injury, described as a torn tendon, is expected to keep him out for 8–10 weeks. Griffin had been a key contributor, posting a .276/.332/.404 line with five home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 59 games before the setback. He previously missed a month with a right forearm strain. The Pirates' injury list also includes center fielder Oneil Cruz and first baseman Spencer Horwitz. Manager Don Kelly said Griffin’s absence is “a punch in the gut” for the team’s playoff push. Shortstop duties will shift to Jared Triolo, while infielder Jack Brannigan has been recalled from Triple‑A Indianapolis to fill the roster spot.
