Italy sustainability and industrial updates: Ecopneus, Pirelli, and chemical sector reports

Several key developments in Italy’s industrial and sustainability sectors were highlighted at the Ecomondo fair in Rimini. Giuseppina Carnimeo, General Manager of Ecopneus, reported that the consortium collected and processed approximately 200,000 tons of end-of-life tires in 2025, fulfilling requests from nearly 50,000 service points. The organization aims to promote the circular economy by repurposing tires for applications such as road paving, construction, and sports surfaces.

In the technology sector, Pirelli has partnered with SAP and Accenture to launch a Supply Chain Collaboration project. Utilizing the SAP Business Network for Supply Chain, the initiative aims to evolve Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) processes. The digital platform is designed to increase transparency, reduce manual inefficiencies, and provide suppliers with better visibility regarding inventory planning and shipments.

The 32nd annual Responsible Care report also presented in Rimini underscores the chemical industry’s role in the ecological transition. The report notes that the chemical sector generated 60 billion euros in production value in 2025. It emphasizes the industry’s commitment to social, environmental, and economic sustainability, specifically regarding energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, and worker safety.
