Pirelli conducts Formula 1 tire testing at Magny-Cours
Pirelli has concluded a two-day intensive tire development program at the Magny-Cours circuit in France. Mercedes reserve driver Frederik Vesti performed the testing, covering a total of 1,160 kilometers over the two sessions.
The first day focused on wet weather performance, specifically testing various intermediate tire prototypes. Vesti completed 125 laps (551 km) to evaluate how quickly different compounds could reach their optimal operating temperature using both natural rainfall and the circuit’s artificial irrigation system.
The second day shifted to dry conditions, with Vesti completing 138 laps (609 km) on slick tires of varying hardness. This session was designed to gather data on dry performance and, crucially, to determine the crossover point between intermediate and slick tires to assist teams with strategic decision-making during changing track conditions.
