Pirelli develops bespoke P Zero R tire for F1 Safety Car

Pirelli has developed the P Zero R, a bespoke ultra-high-performance tire specifically for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+, which serves as the new official FIA Formula 1 Safety Car.

Co-developed with Mercedes-AMG engineers in Affalterbach using virtual simulation, the 21-inch tire features a dual-compound tread and a specific pattern designed to optimize the contact patch. This engineering accounts for the vehicle's suspension geometry, camber, and its fully variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, which requires tires capable of managing rapid load transfers.

The tire is designed to provide high levels of grip, steering precision, and stability in both dry and wet conditions. Testing was conducted at the Nürburgring and Nardò tracks with participation from official FIA Formula 1 Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer. This marks the first time a P Zero R tire has been developed specifically for a Mercedes-AMG model.
