Pirelli develops Cyber Tire with integrated sensors for real-time vehicle adjustments

Pirelli is developing the ‘Cyber Tire,’ a sensor-equipped tire designed to communicate live road data directly to a vehicle’s onboard computer. Each tire contains a Bluetooth sensor, roughly the size of an Apple AirTag, capable of withstanding high stress while monitoring tire pressure, temperature, grip, and wear.

A receiver module mounted on the vehicle's axles transmits this data to the car, allowing algorithms to adjust braking (ABS) and stability (ESP) thresholds in real time. Unlike traditional tires that rely on generalized safety calibrations, the Cyber Tire allows the vehicle to respond to the specific tire and environmental conditions currently in use.

In testing conducted by evo near Milan, the Cyber Tire demonstrated significant performance improvements. During a braking test from 68 mph to a complete stop, the connected tires stopped 5.7 meters (approximately 18.7 feet) sooner than non-connected tires, with particularly notable benefits in wet conditions.
