Pirelli to invest $1.2 billion in Georgia manufacturing expansion

Pirelli has approved a multi-year investment plan of approximately 1.2 billion USD (1 billion EUR) to expand its manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia. The expansion aims to strengthen the company’s ‘local for local’ strategy and meet growing demand for high-value, technologically advanced products in the United States.

The project will be implemented in two phases starting in 2027. The first phase focuses on increasing robotic production using Pirelli’s proprietary Modular Integrated Robotized System (MIRS) to produce high-tech tires, including Cyber Tyre technology. The second phase involves constructing a fully automated traditional manufacturing plant for premium products.

By 2033, the facility is expected to reach full capacity, producing approximately 6 million car tires annually and creating roughly 1,000 new jobs. While the board approved the plan by a majority, directors Zhang Haitao, Xi Xiaohong, and Wang Kun voted against it. The company expects the investment to maintain its capital expenditure-to-revenue ratio and preserve group cash flow.
