Pirenópolis accommodation scam targets digital influencer

A digital influencer, Rani Rockert, fell victim to a sophisticated accommodation scam in Pirenópolis, Goiás, after booking a stay through a fraudulent advertisement. The scam involved a highly convincing fake page that mimicked the visual identity, photos, and professional communication style of a legitimate establishment.

Rockert reported that she responded to a sponsored advertisement and conducted negotiations via WhatsApp. The fraudsters provided high-quality media, detailed information, and even a reservation contract to build trust. After making the full payment via Pix to a registered CNPJ, she discovered the fraud only upon arriving at the provided location, which turned out to be a farm rather than the intended lodging.

This incident highlights a growing trend of criminals using the branding of real pousadas and accommodations to deceive tourists. The sophisticated nature of the fraud, which includes reproducing legitimate visual elements and providing professional-looking documentation, makes it increasingly difficult for travelers to identify the deception before payment is made.
