Pirenópolis historic bridge scheduled for 2027 restoration

The historic wooden bridge over the Rio das Almas in Pirenópolis is scheduled for a complete restoration in the first half of 2027. The project aims to replace all the wooden components of the structure, marking the first major renovation since the early 2000s.

The municipal administration has already begun a technical survey for the work. The project is funded by a R$ 389,800 grant from the Ministry of Tourism, which, combined with municipal contributions, brings the total to R$ 390,800. While the renovation is extensive, local authorities stated that inspections by the Municipal Secretariat of Works and Public Services (Semob) found no serious issues threatening the stability or safety of pedestrians and vehicles. Circulation on the bridge remains open.

The project is currently awaiting approval from the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan), as the bridge is located within a protected area. Built around the 1940s, the structure has only received periodic maintenance since its last major overhaul. The goal is to replace the wood without compromising the historical characteristics of the landmark.
