Pirenópolis hosts 6th Ipadê Popular Culture Festival
The 6th edition of Ipadê – Encontro Cerratense de Culturas Populares is taking place in Pirenópolis from August 24 to 30. The event focuses on various forms of popular culture, including Maracatu, afoxé, percussion, and samba, with Maracatu de Baque Virado serving as the central theme.
Hosted at the COEPi – Comunidade Educacional de Pirenópolis, the program brings together masters, musicians, educators, and the community to promote the transmission of Afro-Brazilian cultural knowledge across generations. The event includes artistic performances and educational workshops, such as a drum maintenance workshop led by Douglas Viana from Nação do Maracatu Porto Rico.
Juliana Bernardes, the event's founder and director-general, stated that Ipadê was created to provide a space where tradition can be lived, shared, and renewed through community engagement.
