PISA 2025 results prompt responses in Morocco and France

The 2025 results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) have prompted various institutional and academic responses regarding student performance in Morocco and France.

In Morocco, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports acknowledged insufficient learning levels among 15-year-old students. However, the ministry stated that these results do not reflect the impact of current educational reforms, such as the ‘Pioneer Establishments’ program. The ministry noted that the students evaluated followed the old educational model and had not yet benefited from the new pedagogical methods being implemented under the 2022-2026 roadmap.

In France, academic analysis has cautioned against a ‘catastrophic’ media interpretation of the results. While French scores in reading comprehension showed a decline, experts noted that this trend is largely consistent with broader OECD averages. Similarly, in scientific literacy, French scores remained close to the OECD mean, with many other nations, including Denmark and Hong Kong, experiencing more significant declines.
