PISA 2025 results reveal educational challenges across multiple nations
The PISA 2025 assessment results have triggered widespread analysis across Latin America and Spain, highlighting significant educational challenges. In Chile, academics from UDP note that while students show high levels of curiosity and effort, performance in mathematics, reading, and science remains below the OECD average, exacerbated by socioeconomic gaps and household conditions.
In the Dominican Republic, results show critical deficiencies, with only 9% of students reaching minimum competency in mathematics. Analysts suggest these figures reflect systemic management issues rather than just student performance. Similarly, in Guatemala, officials view the low scores as an alert to strengthen reading and math programs through public-private coordination.
In Spain, the report indicates the worst historical performance for the country, with significant declines in regions like Navarra. Meanwhile, in Mexico, the national teachers' union (GNTE) has expressed a willingness to collaborate with authorities to address the decline and develop new educational strategies.
