Pisa authorities seize €3.8 million in leather sector tax fraud probe
The Guardia di Finanza in Pisa has seized €3.8 million from a corporation and its legal representative following an investigation into a tax evasion scheme within the leather tanning district.
Investigators allege that between 2021 and 2025, the company acted as a “filter” in a commercial chain designed to facilitate tax evasion for connected entrepreneurs. The scheme allegedly involved the issuance and use of fraudulent invoices totaling €20.6 million. These fictitious transactions were used to artificially inflate costs, thereby reducing taxable income and evading both income tax and VAT.
The seizure, ordered by a judge at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, includes corporate shares and approximately €700,000 in bank account balances.
