Pisa commemorates Major Gian Paolo Gamerra

More than 110 students participated in a ceremony in Pisa to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the death of Major Gian Paolo Gamerra, a recipient of the Gold Medal for Military Valor. The event, held at the Riglione cemetery, was organized by the Municipality of Pisa and the Associazione Artiglieri.

Civil and military authorities, along with various associations, attended the commemoration. Students from the Gian Paolo Gamerra middle school and members of the Leonardo Fibonacci Comprehensive Institute orchestra provided musical performances. During the ceremony, participants received booklets containing reflections and thoughts written by the students.

Major Gamerra died on September 9, 1943, following the armistice, while leading artillery batteries toward Livorno. Local officials noted the importance of the event in maintaining the memory of his sacrifice and the contributions made toward the liberation of the country.
