Pisa Hospital Emergency Department Chief Position Remains Vacant Until November

The Azienda Ospedaliero‑Universitaria Pisana (AOUP) has set a deadline of November for the top‑ranked candidate in the selection process to decide whether to assume the role of chief of the Cisanello Emergency Department. The appointed Dr. Bertini will not begin duties until 1 November, extending a vacancy that has existed since Dr. Santini retired on 31 December.

Regional councilor Diego Petrucci (Fratelli d’Italia) criticised the prolonged delay, saying it harms both staff and citizens and questions why a critical hospital department is left in limbo for eleven months. The selection list has been ready since 22 May, and Petrucci called for clarification from the regional health authority.

The situation highlights concerns over management of key health positions in Tuscany and the impact on emergency‑care services at one of Italy’s major hospitals.
