Pisa hosts 39th edition of Il Morione awards
The 39th edition of the ‘Il Morione’ awards concluded at Palazzo Gambacorti in Pisa. Organized by the Amici del Gioco del Ponte association, the ceremony recognizes individuals and groups from the Tramontana and Mezzogiorno factions, as well as the judges' procession, for their roles in the Gioco del Ponte.
The ‘Morione d’onore’, named after association founder Umberto Moschini, was awarded posthumously to Roberto Balestri, a key figure in the modern Gioco and former secretary of the award. His family accepted the recognition during the ceremony, which was attended by local officials, including Deputy Mayor Filippo Bedini.
Stefano Gianfaldoni, president of the Amici del Gioco del Ponte, emphasized the importance of the award in recognizing those who preserve the historical parade while noting the need to keep the tradition engaging for the community.
