Pisa hosts 9th edition of Cinema della Normale film festival

The ninth edition of ‘Il Cinema della Normale’ film festival is scheduled to take place from Friday, September 11, to Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Pisa, Italy. Organized by the Scuola Normale Superiore in collaboration with Cineclub Arsenale and sponsored by the Municipality of Pisa, this year’s theme is ‘Revolution! History, utopia and revolt on the big screen.’

The festival explores revolution through personal, political, and social transformations, as well as shifts in cinematic language. All screenings will be held free of charge in Piazza dei Cavalieri starting at 21:00 and will feature introductions by scholars and experts.

The program is dedicated to the late Iranian-French artist Marjane Satrapi. It begins on September 11 with a restored version of ‘Persepolis,’ introduced by co-director Vincent Paronnaud. Other scheduled films include Bong Joon-Ho’s ‘Snowpiercer’ on September 12 and Elio Petri’s ‘La classe operaia va in paradiso’ on September 13.
