Pisa opens applications for historical and local business registry

The City of Pisa has opened applications for businesses to be officially recognized as historical shops or proximity businesses of collective interest (EPIC). The deadline for the initial registration in the municipal registry is September 30.

To qualify as a historical shop, a business must have been operational for at least 40 continuous years, maintaining the same or a similar activity, and must possess historical or architectural elements such as original furnishings or signage. Proximity businesses of collective interest require at least 20 years of continuous operation and must meet specific criteria, such as providing social cohesion, public utility services, or supporting local Tuscan supply chains.

Commerce Councilor Paolo Pesciatini stated that the initiative aims to value Pisa’s historical commercial network and support activities that serve social roles within the community. Recognized businesses will benefit from promotion through tourism routes, information campaigns, and events. Future possibilities for tax relief, such as reductions in waste tax (TARI) or public land occupation fees, may also be considered through specific municipal calls.
