PISA results show educational gaps in Chile and Colombia
Recent PISA results highlight educational challenges in Chile and Colombia, with both nations performing below the OECD average in key areas.
In Chile, scores reached 403 in Mathematics, 436 in Reading, and 442 in Science. Since 2022, the country has seen a decline of nine points in Mathematics and twelve points in Reading, while Science scores have remained largely stagnant. While Chile maintains a relatively favorable position within Latin America, the data suggests a widening gap in essential life skills and potential increases in inherited inequality.
In Colombia, reading scores dropped to 399 points, down from 409 in 2022. Although the OECD notes this recent variation is not statistically significant, the long-term trend is concerning; the proportion of students failing to reach minimum reading levels has increased by 12 percentage points since 2015. Currently, only 46% of Colombian students reach level 2 or higher in reading, compared to the OECD average of 69%, with only 1% reaching advanced levels.
