Pisa secures 8.8 million euros for sustainable mobility projects

The City of Pisa has secured over 8.8 million euros in funding through the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security’s ‘Integrated Program of Interventions on Urban and Metropolitan Mobility’. The approved budget is designated for projects aimed at improving urban mobility and reducing atmospheric emissions.

Key infrastructure projects include the completion of a 6-kilometer bicycle path connecting Tirrenia to Calambrone, and a new 3-kilometer path serving the Veterinary and Agricultural faculties. Additionally, a new interceptor parking lot will be built in southern Calambrone to facilitate transfers between cars, buses, and bicycles, helping to reduce traffic flow toward the coast.

The funding also covers the accessibility upgrade of approximately 40 urban public transport stops, specifically targeting locations frequently used by people with disabilities. Furthermore, the city will implement new traffic management technologies, including detection systems at 15 to 20 major traffic light nodes.
