Pisa's Piazza dei Cavalieri sparks debate over culinary event location

The culinary event ‘The Golden Steak’, which hosted the finals of the Italian steak cooking championship in Pisa, has sparked controversy regarding its location in Piazza dei Cavalieri. Critics argue that using this historic square, known as a center of science and former civil power, for a barbecue event is inappropriate and potentially harmful to the preservation of historical-artistic heritage, such as the Palazzo della Carovana.

Federico Pieragnoli, General Director of Confcommercio Pisa, defended the event, describing it as a high-profile manifestation that showcased Italy’s best grill masters and premium meats. He emphasized the event’s national television visibility and its role in celebrating Italian culinary traditions. Pieragnoli asserted that the square was returned to the city in perfect condition and rejected claims that the event was merely a common street festival, calling such descriptions a misrepresentation of the facts.
