Pistoia councilor sparks controversy over comments on unborn children

A political controversy has erupted in the Pistoia City Council following comments made by councilor Lavinia Ferrari of the Avs party. During a discussion regarding a proposed site for unborn children within the Misericordia cemetery, Ferrari stated, “I wonder who these unborn children are. If they were not born, they were never alive.”

The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from various political groups. The Avanti Pistoia group issued a dissociation, stating the words do not represent their position and criticizing the Mayor for defending the councilor. Additionally, the Fratelli d’Italia group argued that the comments were insensitive to families experiencing loss and those who seek a place to remember lives that were never born.
