Pitbull protects family from cougar attack in São Paulo

A pitbull named Ragnar protected a family with three young children from a cougar attack at a residential complex in the Serra da Cantareira region, north of São Paulo. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM when the dog intercepted the wild animal near the home's rear entrance.

The family reported that the dog's sudden reaction alerted them to the intruder. Following the confrontation, the cougar was captured on security cameras moving through the gated community. Ragnar sustained serious injuries, including a torn face and a compromised vein near his heart, requiring emergency surgery.

The São Paulo municipal government stated that the Wild Fauna Division (DFS) will investigate the facts. Authorities advised the public not to attempt to capture or drive away wild animals themselves if they encounter them.
