Criminal activities reported in Moldova and Romania
In Moldova, environmental inspectors discovered widespread illegal logging in the Vadul lui Vodă forestry district. Approximately 394 tree stumps, primarily oak, maple, acacia, and cherry, were found hidden under soil and vegetation to conceal the activity. The total damage to the forest fund is estimated to exceed one million lei, with the stolen timber valued at roughly 370,000 lei.
In Romania, a 27-year-old man in Pitești was detained following allegations of theft and blackmail. Authorities report that the suspect stole a mobile phone from a 56-year-old man at a local market and subsequently demanded 1,000 lei to return the device. Police recovered the phone and placed the suspect in custody for 24 hours pending further investigation by the Pitești Prosecutor's Office.
