Pitigliano Council Rejects Pedestrianisation, Boosts Resident Parking and Shop Tax Relief
The municipal council of Pitigliano in Tuscany voted unanimously to reject a proposal to pedestrianise the historic centre. Instead, the council approved a motion that keeps vehicle access while introducing measures to support residents.
The new policy includes reserving additional parking spaces for locals in Piazza della Repubblica, abolishing the local TARI tax for neighbourhood shops that sell essential goods within the traffic‑restricted zone, and pledging further initiatives to maintain a year‑round residential community in the town centre. Mayor Giovanni Gentili highlighted the aim of balancing tourism with the needs of permanent inhabitants.
