Pitit Dessalines demands UN evidence regarding Moïse Jean-Charles

The Haitian political party Pitit Dessalines has formally requested clarifications from the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN Group of Experts on Haiti regarding allegations against its leader, former senator Moïse Jean-Charles.

The party is contesting findings in report S/2026/714 that link Jean-Charles to the trade of baby eels, known locally as ‘zangi’. Pitit Dessalines asserts that their leader does not hold any export licenses for this commodity and has demanded that the UN provide precise, verifiable, and corroborated evidence to support its claims.

In the absence of such proof, the party is calling for the removal of Jean-Charles’s name from the relevant sections of the report. While noting that the eel trade is not inherently illegal, the party has called for a rigorous investigation into potential smuggling or illicit export activities to identify responsible operators and any failures in state oversight. Pitit Dessalines has also indicated it may pursue legal action through national and international channels if the allegations are not substantiated.
