Pitso Mosimane addresses Bafana Bafana progress and technical goals

South Africa's national football team, Bafana Bafana, secured a 2-1 victory against Guinea in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Following the match, Guinea's coach Paulo Duarte ranked South Africa among the top three teams on the continent alongside Morocco and Senegal. South African head coach Pitso Mosimane responded with caution, noting that while the team is progressing, they are still a work in progress.

In a separate assessment following the CAF Strategy Conference, Mosimane addressed technical areas requiring improvement ahead of the 2030 World Cup. Citing a FIFA-led technical review, Mosimane identified a lack of box entries as a primary weakness that the coaching staff must rectify. The review, which included insights from Arsène Wenger, emphasized the need for better chance creation and penalty-area presence to build on the recent successes of African football on the global stage.
