Pitso Mosimane and SAFA negotiations face potential breakdown

Negotiations between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Pitso Mosimane for the Bafana Bafana head coach position are reportedly at risk of breaking down. While SAFA’s NEC had approved Mosimane as the successor to Hugo Broos, current discussions have shifted toward potential conflicts of interest regarding Mosimane’s personal brand and image rights, specifically his podcast ‘Changing The Game with Pitso’. SAFA is seeking greater control to restrict the manager's ability to represent his own brand while representing the nation.

Former head coach Hugo Broos has criticized the potential appointment, claiming that Mosimane’s leadership could send the national team “five years back in time.” Broos, who led the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stages, expressed concerns regarding external interference from club owners and agents in squad selection.

As negotiations with Mosimane stall, other candidates are emerging. Uruguayan coach Gus Poyet and Italian coach Giovanni Solinas are reportedly being considered for the role.
