Pitso Mosimane approved to return as South Africa head coach

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has approved Pitso Mosimane to return for a second stint as the head coach of the national team, Bafana Bafana, succeeding Hugo Broos.

While the appointment has been sanctioned by the National Executive Committee, formal confirmation is pending the resolution of contract negotiations. Reports indicate a significant dispute regarding remuneration. Mosimane's camp reportedly rejected an initial annual offer of R5 million, labeling it "disrespectful" given his professional standing and the salary previously earned by Broos, which was estimated at approximately R1.4 million per month.

Following these negotiations, SAFA has reportedly doubled its initial offer to R10 million per year. Once finalized, Mosimane will lead a squad that recently achieved historic success by reaching the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His immediate priority will be qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
