The appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the new head coach of South Africa’s national team, Bafana Bafana, remains unresolved as contract negotiations continue. While the South African Football Association (SAFA) National Executive Committee reportedly approved his appointment on August 8, an official announcement has been delayed.

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has urged SAFA to ensure Mosimane receives a fair salary commensurate with his achievements, including three CAF Champions League titles. McKenzie argued that the association should not undervalue a successful Black coach by offering less than what was paid to former white coach Hugo Broos.

In a separate critique, former coach Hugo Broos expressed skepticism regarding Mosimane’s potential leadership. Speaking to Belgian media, Broos suggested that appointing Mosimane would cause the team to “go five years back in time” and alleged that agents and club owners attempt to influence squad selection and coaching decisions.
