Pitt defeats Syracuse 27-13 in ACC opener

The Pitt Panthers secured a 27-13 victory over the Syracuse Orange at Acrisure Stadium, marking a successful ACC opener for Pitt (3-0, 1-0 ACC) while Syracuse fell to 1-2 in the conference.

Despite a difficult passing performance from quarterback Mason Heintschel, who completed 10 of 23 passes for 123 yards, Pitt relied on a dominant rushing attack. The Panthers recorded a season-high 245 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Freshman Damon Ferguson Jr. led the ground game with 102 yards, supported by La’Vell Wright’s 81 yards.

Pitt’s defense proved decisive in the fourth quarter, contributing two interceptions, two sacks, and eight tackles for loss to halt Syracuse’s momentum. Coach Pat Narduzzi credited the defense and the running game for the win, noting that the team made critical plays when needed.
