Pitt football earns national rankings after victory over Virginia Tech

Following a 35-33 road victory over Virginia Tech, the University of Pittsburgh football team earned national rankings in the Associated Press Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll. The Panthers moved to 5-0 on the season, appearing at No. 25 in the AP poll and No. 24 in the Coaches Poll.

During postgame interviews, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi criticized poll voters for overlooking the team's performance. “We got a hell of a football team,” Narduzzi told ESPN. “Now, any of those voters out there, if they wake their (butts) up, they might figure that out.”

The victory came at a significant cost, as starting quarterback Mason Heintschel suffered an ACL tear in the third quarter and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Backup Holden Geriner led the team to the win, guiding two late touchdowns to secure the victory after Virginia Tech missed a last-second field goal attempt.
