Pittsburg, CA residents push back on planned data center at former golf course

More than 300 Pittsburg, California residents attended a city‑council meeting in June to voice opposition to a three‑story data center approved in 2024 for the former Delta View Golf Course. Speakers, including teachers, parents, members of Indivisible Resisters Contra Costa and local activists, warned of environmental impacts, water use and the loss of open space, and criticized the lack of prior public outreach. A petition organized by resident Amhari Perkins gathered over 13,000 signatures in a week.

The proposed facility would generate 96 MW of power, be cooled with recycled water and rely on 37 diesel‑powered backup generators. City officials, citing tax revenue, argue the project will fund road improvements and youth‑sports fields. After two hours of comments, Mayor Dionne Adams said the council will schedule a workshop and keep the issue on the agenda for further public discussion.
