Pittsburg police officer and suspect injured in shooting

A shooting at the Pittsburg police headquarters in California injured an officer and a 31-year-old suspect during the booking process on Thursday. The incident occurred after a suspect was brought into a holding cell, reportedly without being properly searched.

According to police sources, the suspect produced a firearm while officers were preparing to transport him to the county jail. During a struggle for the weapon, a shot was discharged, striking the officer in the stomach and the suspect in the leg.

The Pittsburg Police Department confirmed that the officer was transported to a local hospital and is in serious but stable condition, while the suspect is also in stable condition. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported that medics treated three individuals at the scene. The Pittsburg Police Department and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are currently investigating the incident.
