Pittsburgh International Airport to pilot robot dogs for facility monitoring
Pittsburgh International Airport is launching a six-month pilot project featuring four quadrupedal robots designed by Skild AI, a local robotics startup. The robots, which resemble dogs but utilize wheels for energy efficiency and floor protection, are tasked with monitoring air quality, detecting liquid spills, and identifying overflowing trash cans.
The deployment is part of an initiative through the airport’s xBridge innovation center. During the trial, Skild team members will be on-site to monitor the robots' behavior in a real-world environment. If the pilot proves successful, airport officials are considering expanding the robots' responsibilities to include autonomous food delivery and security services.
