Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin expected to begin throwing rehab
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed shortstop Konnor Griffin on the 10‑day injured list on May 31 due to a low‑grade forearm muscle strain. After a period of light throwing and ground‑ball work, Griffin is waiting for clearance from the team physician before starting a formal throwing program. Sports medicine director Todd Tomczyk said imaging shows Griffin’s ulnar collateral ligament is stable, surgery is not being considered, and the injury is resolving. Griffin, who debuted in early April and signed a nine‑year contract, posted a .270 batting average with four home runs, 22 RBIs and 14 stolen bases before the injury. He is slated to be cleared to throw on Wednesday, though he may remain on the IL beyond the minimum ten days.
