Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin starts rehab assignment with Double‑A Altoona

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie shortstop Konnor Griffin began a rehabilitation assignment on Tuesday night with the Double‑A Altoona Curve. The 20‑year‑old has been on the injured list since May 31 with a right forearm strain. Griffin made his major‑league debut on April 3 and signed a nine‑year, $140 million contract five days later. He is currently hitting .270 with four home runs, 22 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 51 games.

Pirates manager Don Kelly said the club will “take it day by day” and monitor Griffin’s arm, rhythm and timing before deciding on activation. No timetable for his return has been set. The team also noted that right‑hander Jared Jones showed no elbow damage in recent imaging after being struck by a line drive.

The rehab stint provides the organization a controlled environment to evaluate Griffin’s health and readiness to resume major‑league duties.
