Pittsburgh Steelers Kick Off Training Camp at Saint Vincent College

The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for their 59th consecutive training camp on Tuesday, July 28. The week‑long preparation includes field upgrades, with the grass surface stripped, irrigated and resodded to meet NFL standards, and a review of facilities such as the dining hall, weight room and the new Dunlap Family Athletic and Recreation Center.

New head coach Mike McCarthy visited the campus with his staff for their first camp at the venue. Former college employee John Hunter recalled how fans in the 1970s could walk around the camp and get autographs, noting that security is now much tighter. Jeff Mallory, Saint Vincent’s executive vice president, said the college held multiple planning meetings to “look at every angle to make sure that everyone has a great time.” The influx of players, coaches and thousands of fans also provides a boost to local businesses, with Sharky’s Café hiring additional staff to handle the crowds.

The training camp runs through mid‑August, after which the Steelers will break camp on August 17 and the college will resume classes on August 31.
