Pittsburgh Steelers manage Joey Porter Jr. injury amid T. J. Watt's strong start

The Pittsburgh Steelers are managing roster challenges following their Week 1 victory against the Atlanta Falcons. Defensive back Joey Porter Jr. was held inactive during the game as he continues to recover from a back injury and navigates ongoing contract negotiations. Head coach Mike McCarthy described Porter’s current status as a “ramp-up” period and noted that the decision to sit him was his own.

In contrast to Porter’s absence, outside linebacker T. J. Watt delivered a dominant performance, recording four tackles, two sacks, an interception, and a touchdown. Following his Week 1 output, Watt has emerged as a top contender for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, currently holding 12% odds according to Kalshi Sports, trailing only Will Anderson and Aidan Hutchinson.
