Pittsburgh Steelers Players Decry Latrobe Training Camp Setup

The Pittsburgh Steelers have held their annual training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania since 1966, with the only exception in 2020 when the COVID‑19 pandemic forced the team to stay at home.

In a recent episode of Cam Heyward’s “Not Just Football” podcast, current defensive tackle Cam Heyward and former EDGE rusher Bud Dupree expressed strong dislike for the dormitory arrangement. Dupree remarked, “Nah, they still go to Latrobe? … I hated the dorms.” Heyward added that the COVID‑year camp, when players could stay at home, was the best, saying the team tried to win a Super Bowl so they could tell owner Art Rooney II they didn’t need to return to Latrobe, but the plan didn’t materialise.

New head coach Mike McCarthy has already altered some traditional camp routines, yet the Latrobe location remains a long‑standing franchise tradition.
