Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks Howard and Allar to see extended action

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy plans to give quarterbacks Will Howard and Drew Allar extended playing time during Friday’s preseason game against the New York Jets. Both young players are expected to split snaps, as starter Aaron Rodgers and veteran backup Mason Rudolph will sit out the contest.

Following strong preseason debuts that included four combined touchdown drives, the team is evaluating its depth at the position. While the Steelers have not officially confirmed if they will carry four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, team sources indicate the possibility is being discussed. If the team opts to keep four quarterbacks, it could provide more development time for Howard and Allar; otherwise, veteran Mason Rudolph may become a trade option as roster cuts approach.
