Pittsburgh Steelers Roster Overhaul Ahead of 2026 NFL Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made extensive roster changes as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season. Veteran additions include running back Rico Dowdle, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., guard Brock Hoffman, defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph‑Day, cornerback Jamel Dean and safety Jaquan Brisker. The team also signed several draft picks such as offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, wide receiver Germie Bernard, guard Gennings Dunker, cornerback Daylen Everette, quarterback Drew Allar and wide receiver Kaden Wetjen. Off‑season departures feature running back Kenneth Gainwell, wide receivers Calvin Austin, Adam Thielen and Scotty Miller, tight ends Connor Heyward and Jonnu Smith, offensive tackle Andrus Peat, guard Isaac Seumalo, defensive tackles Daniel Ekuale and Isaiahh Loudermilk, linebacker Cole Holcomb and several defensive backs.

The Steelers also reshuffled their coaching staff, dismissing longtime head coach Mike Tomlin and hiring Mike McCarthy, while quarterback Aaron Rodgers, at 43, announced he will play his final season in Pittsburgh. In the draft, the team selected defensive back Robert Spears‑Jennings in the seventh round, a former Oklahoma captain with notable size and speed, who could develop into a special‑teams asset or box‑safety for the Steelers' secondary.

These moves signal a shift in both offensive and defensive strategy as the franchise seeks to remain competitive after a turbulent previous season.
