Pittsburgh Steelers target trio of linebackers and assess backup center Ryan McCollum for 2026
The Steelers’ middle‑linebacker group has drawn criticism, prompting the team to identify three possible upgrades for the 2026 season. Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks, a first‑team All‑Pro known for a high tackle rate, is under contract through 2025 and could provide an immediate run‑defense boost. Tennessee Titans off‑ball linebacker Cedric Gray, a breakout player with 164 tackles in 2025, is still on a rookie deal through 2027. New Orleans Saints linebacker Pete Werner, praised for his coverage skills and modest salary, also fits the Steelers’ cap situation.
Separately, backup center Ryan McCollum, who has appeared in all 36 games for Pittsburgh over the past two seasons, faces a roster battle. The Steelers signed veteran Brock Hoffman, who can play both guard and center, and drafted guard Gennings Dunker in the third round. With these additions and the health of other interior linemen in question, McCollum must prove his value in camp to retain a spot on the 53‑man roster for the upcoming season.
