Pittsburgh Steelers Start Physical Training Camp with No‑Tackle Policy

Head coach Mike McCarthy began his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers by instituting a physical camp that bans tackling, directing players to “thud up” instead. The team’s first padded practice is scheduled for Monday at Saint Vincent College, with an emphasis on realistic repetitions, third‑down situations and simultaneous 11‑on‑11 drills within NFL practice‑time limits.

Alongside the camp changes, the Steelers announced their 2026 Hall of Honor class, inducting former GM Kevin Colbert, former cornerback J.T. Thomas and former guard Craig Wolfley. The ceremony will be held in September at Acrisure Stadium.

Early camp observations highlighted standout performers such as quarterback Will Howard, receiver Brandon Smith and safety Jack Henderson, while veteran safety Jaquan Brisker celebrated a family‑organized reunion at the practice, noting his recent free‑agency signing with the Steelers.
