Piura allocates 4.35 billion soles for El Niño emergency projects

Public institutions in Piura, Peru, have access to 4.352 billion soles for emergency projects related to El Niño. The Regional Government holds a budget ceiling of 2.6 billion soles, while local governments have over 1.4 billion soles available.

To expedite spending before the rainy season, the government is developing a new mechanism called ‘services for taxes.’ Proinversión is currently drafting a supreme decree to establish guidelines for this modality, which is expected to be finalized in the first week of September. This mechanism aims to allow the private sector to collaborate through donations and tax-based services to address urgent needs, such as cleaning riverbanks and intervening in the Chutuque canal.
