Piura driver arrested after fatal hit-and-run involving 80-year-old

An 80-year-old man, Francisco Espinoza Morante, died after being struck by a vehicle while waiting at a bus stop on José Aguilar Avenue in Piura, Peru. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Arturo Encalada Bustinza, was traveling at excessive speed when the car mounted the shoulder and struck a fence and a parked vehicle.

Following the accident, the National Police of Peru detained Encalada Bustinza. A subsequent medical examination determined the driver had a blood alcohol level of 2.10. Authorities noted that the driver had shared a video on social media hours before the incident showing him consuming beer with friends. The case has been referred to the prosecutor's office to determine legal responsibilities.
