Piura teachers protest for Law 32581 pension compliance

Retired and former teachers in Piura have staged protests to demand the implementation of Law 32581. The law, enacted in April 2026, mandates a pension equivalent to the Full Monthly Remuneration (RIM) of the first magisterial scale for eligible retired educators across various teaching regimes.

Demonstrators gathered at the Piura Regional Government headquarters, criticizing the administration for returning funds to the state annually instead of addressing social debt and teacher benefits. Protesters warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to a 24-hour national strike. Additionally, some teachers joined the mobilization to demand appointments related to recruitment processes initiated in 2022 and 2024.
