Piuran theater groups embark on international tour in Brazil

Two independent theater groups from Piura, Peru, are embarking on an international tour in Brazil under the project ‘Teatro Piurano en Brasil’. Managed by Chumbeque Producciones, the tour includes participation in the V Muestra Internacional de Teatro de Marília in the state of São Paulo.

The tour, which runs from October 15 to 29, was made possible after the teams won the ‘Concurso de Proyectos para la Circulación Internacional de las Artes’ through the 2026 Economic Stimuli from the Ministry of Culture. In addition to Marília, the groups plan performances and exchanges in São Paulo, Santos, and Rio de Janeiro.

The participating collectives are the Asociación Cultural Pascal y Julián, presenting ‘La Capullana Lavandera’—a clown-style storytelling piece based on Tallán culture—and the Grupo Teatral Insolente Popurrí, which performs ‘Hace sed’, a multidisciplinary improvisation piece for adults.
