Piyungan traffic accident kills two in multi-vehicle collision

A fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred on Jalan Wonosari Km 12 in Piyungan, Bantul, on Tuesday afternoon. The accident involved a Hino truck, a pickup truck carrying catfish, a Grand Max vehicle, and a Honda Scoopy motorcycle.

According to the Bantul Police, the incident began when a Hino truck traveling from east to west allegedly crossed the road markings into the oncoming lane. This resulted in a head-on collision with a pickup truck traveling from west to east. The impact caused the truck to lose control and strike a residential fence, while a motorcycle following the pickup was unable to stop and collided with the rear of the pickup.

Two people were reported dead, including the 47-year-old pickup driver, who suffered severe head injuries. At least four people were involved in the incident, with one victim reportedly trapped in a vehicle cabin during the crash. Authorities are continuing to process data regarding the victims and the full chronology of the event.
