Pizza Hut exits Sweden and puts business up for sale

Pizza Hut is exiting the Swedish market after closing 18 restaurants. The company's operations in the country have faced ongoing profitability issues, with reported operating losses exceeding 93 million Swedish kronor between 2022 and 2024.

Following a restructuring attempt that began in November 2025, the business has entered bankruptcy proceedings. The bankruptcy trustee, Emma Berglund Uväng from the law firm Schjødt, is currently seeking a buyer for the entire business. The priority is to sell the operations as a whole before any liquidation of assets begins. The closure affects approximately 250 employees.

Pizza Hut, which was recently acquired by Long Range Capital from Yum Brands for $1.5 billion, continues to operate globally, but its Swedish presence has become unsustainable due to significant debt and unpaid taxes.
