Pizzone Mayor to be removed following financial insolvency ruling

The Court of Auditors has upheld a ruling regarding the financial insolvency of the Italian municipality of Pizzone, leading to the removal of the current mayor, Vincenzo Di Cristofano. The appellate court rejected appeals against the previous decision, confirming sanctions for two former mayors.

Letizia Di Iorio, who led the municipality from 2011 to 2021, was fined 24,000 euros, while Vincenzo Di Cristofano was fined 4,765.65 euros. Under Italian law, both individuals are barred from holding public office for ten years. Consequently, the Prefecture will oversee Di Cristofano’s removal from office.

While judges acknowledged that Di Cristofano inherited a compromised financial situation, they ruled that his actions contributed to the aggravation of the insolvency. Di Cristofano stated he was proud of balancing the accounts of the 300-resident municipality, noting that he left the entity with a surplus despite the inherited deficit.
